i'm so excited. i had to write and say that I got in to guide dogs for the blind in boring oregon. it is at the end of november in the new two week program for first timers. please pray that I'm up for the challenge. Now it starts. My family and friends can't resist the "I always knew you were and you're going to be boring" comments. .

Congratulations, Holly. Keep us posted as to how things go. I'm curious as to how you chose taht campus over San Rafel? (Hope I spelled that right.) No judgement implied here.

should I be concerned about my choice? I picked it because they have the two week program which I wanted to try. My daughter went to california and I want her to have her own identihty, but I told them that it was up to them. My brother lives five minutes away from the campus.

Hey Turricane,
first of all congratulations on getting into GDb. Since I work at the Oregon campus I will get to personally welcome you when you arrive. *smile* It is very exciting for you. Both campuses are fantastic. I received July from the San Rafael campus but work here in Oregon and love this one too. You will get the same training as you would in california. The big difference is that Oregon's is a smaller campus. *smiles Again congratulations.

I can hardly wait to meet you pebbles!!!!!!!!! i feel like I am pregnant. it is so exciting and so hard to wait!!!! oh yes, i love the name of your dog. i wanted to name my daughter july but since she was born in march that would have been really weird.

I didn't know there were two-week programs. All the schools I've heard about have four-week courses unless you are going back for a second dog in which case I've heard you don't have to be there for a month. And Boring Oregon? LOL. I'd hate to live in a place with that name.

Keep us posted.

This is the very same campus where i got my dog Ditra, AKA Little d. lol Congratulations on getting in to the program.

libra lady, it is a new program that they are just starting for first timers. the ratio between students and teachers is one on two i believe. it is to meet the need for folks like me who want a dog but can't take a month or so out of their lives. it sounds really positive but intense. the evaluator basically told me that she thought i might be to old but would put my name in. i guess the board thought my good travel skills made up for my age 52. we'll see. please pray that the young guns don't show me up.

Turricane, I don't see why they would think 52 is too old. Now 82 I can see, but if you're in good health and have no problem walking, I definitely don't think 52 is too old.

Congratulations to you. I wish my husband could get in to that school. He's already applied and been accepted at Guide Dogs Of The Desert which is close to us, but I think a program like the new onein Oregon would be nice. Good for you, and yes, I will pray foryou. It sounds vigorous.

Sunshine and rain, well i'll be praying that all goes well with your husband at guide dogs of the desert. It looks like a nice school. i'm not a big desert gal though. don't they have scorpions and stuff? Libra lady, I'm in good shape, but need to lose those nasty 20 pounds I keep finding and trying to give away. my daughter is my personal trainer and is making me work out every day to get ready. Think it makes her feel good to direct dear old mom. I guess the interviewer's mild concern was that this program is a lot more intensive then the three or four week classes. It's been a long time since i've been in school. Hope I know how to be a respectful and obedient student.

I've lived in the desert off and on forever and nope,I've neverrun in to scorpions.

That school was in its first year when I went to the one in San Rafel. If it's run like the one in California, that's a great program.. Be prepared as you might have to train in the snow. I kow that if the one in California is full, they will put you in the first available class for beginners and that must've been in Oregon. Good luck.

snow is not a problem for this girl. i love it. in fact, it is the only thing which makes winter bearable. the farmers' almanac says we are going to have a terrible winter. ditto friends of mine. the lower the sun spot activity the colder the winter. since we are also having el nino, that means lots of precip on the east coast. so, cold, precip snow. bring it on bring it on!!!!
